Hi dizzy. Thank you for asking. A Ring base station is required in order to use the Ring Alarm Motion Detector. The Base Station connects all your Ring Alarm security devices, Ring Video Doorbells, Security Cameras, and other smart devices. It monitors your sensors in order to trigger break-in or fire alarms while supporting cellular and battery backup if your internet or power go out. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No because the Motion detector sync's up with the Ring base via Zwave (Proprietary communication). The base manages all the parts of the alarm system and then communicates to Alexa on status.
