• You do not need to buy the ring doorbell to use this item. It can be used as a wifi extender. You connect the ring camera to the ring chime using the wifi connect and then your camera will be using the chime wifi instead of the camera. Honestly, I bought this exactly to use it as a wifi extender even though I do have the ring doorbell but I am slightly not too happy with it. I have a total of 3 cameras around the house plus the doorbell and the wifi sucks. I'm not sure if it's the chime itself or if it could just mean that my internet provider isn't very good but it does a good job with atleast one of the cameras, not the rest.
