The sensor is setup based on your parameters. It will be able to reachout to well over 100' if you set the motion zone for that distance and adjust the sensitivity. I have 6 of these cameras and I have to reduce to sensitivity to minimize the alerts as animals pass inside the detetion zone. You can set it for people detection only as well and it works most of the time.

The optimal height to get the best range for the motion detector is nine feet (three meters) off the ground.
