“I want to use this at an apt where I would be using the wifi of my tenant.I assume as long as I register the device to my ring subscription then it does not matter that I am not using a wifi that I "own", but I will be able to see the device on my phone?”

That’s a tricky question. When you first install and get the app you need the WiFi no matter what. Ring only works with WiFi, that’s how it stays on to monitor. Point is, you need WiFi to make the ring work. Without WiFi it won’t catch anything.
