“I bought the video doorbell 3. I’m going to connect it to my doorbell wires. Does the battery have to be in the unit to work or can I use that battery as a spare for a backup camera that will not be wired up to the doorbell wires.”

• If you bought recently just return it. After two months it will keep causing problem and customer has to pay annual subscription. Choose anything brand.

• Hello Lonz, The battery must remain in the doorbell for it to work even if the doorbell is hardwired. -Jamila
