No it is constantly recording and locally holds the last 24 hours or recordings. You can go on the app and do live view or goback in time by 24 hours.

You can also access, download, and share past Ring videos. Without this service, you will still receive real-time video alerts on your smartphone as well as have access to the Live View feature.
