- A: AnswerYou can run it with just wifi and battery, if you never plan on hard wiring it in, I would pick up a second battery so that you can charge it up when this one notifies you its down to pretty low %. This way you can swap it out in 30 seconds flat with no real downtime as opposed to taking the battery out, having a few hours of down time and having to slap it back in when charged.

Q: QuestionWhat is the major difference between this one and the ring 2.?(2 answers)
A: AnswerHello willm2work, Great question. The Ring Video Doorbell 4 has all the same great features of the previous generations of battery video doorbells, including Ring Video Doorbell, Ring Video Doorbell 2, Ring Video Doorbell 3, and Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus. The difference is it adds a number of new features on top of them. These include: Dual-band wifi that work on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. 1080p HD video with night vision. Color Pre-Roll enabled. The main difference between Ring Video Doorbell 3 and Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus and Ring Video Doorbell 4, is that Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus and Ring Video Doorbell 4 have a pre-roll feature, which allows you to see up to 4 additional seconds of video before a motion event is triggered – a first-to-market feature for battery-powered doorbells and unique exclusively to Ring. The main differences between the Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus and Ring Video Doorbell 4 is that the pre-roll video previews on Video Doorbell 4 are in color, have a higher quality video, and improved nigh time functionality. - A: AnswerThe doorbell itself ring outside just for the person pressing the bell to hear but yes, you definitely need the Chime if you don't hard wire for you to hear it ring inside.
Answered by Lagbaja
- A: AnswerFor mine it runs on the hardwire but it seems that being connected to the hardwire also charges the battery inside as when it was first install the battery level was 27% but gradually has gone up to 76% over the course of 2 weeks

Q: QuestionIs there a monthly charge for ring 4 doorbell?(3 answers)
A: AnswerHello Patrica, Great question! We want to ensure that we can answer any questions you may have concerning how the Ring Protect Plans work and how to save and share videos when necessary. Ring gives a complimentary 30-day trial with each new Ring device. After 30 days, you can choose if you would like to purchase a Ring Protect Plan. A Ring Protect Plan is not necessary to view real-time notifications on your Ring cameras. Without the Ring Protect Plan, you can still use the live view and two-way audio features. You are still able to see who is at your door and answer motion notifications. In order to see past recorded videos from your ring device, you will need the optional Ring Protect Plan, which starts at $3/month per device or $30/year per device. Please see the following link for more information regarding the Ring Protect Plan and the benefits it offers: https://ring.com/protect-plans?undefined. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback/experiences with Ring. - A: AnswerI have not had that problem with my Ring 4. I can't speak to the tech side but it has been very specific to notify me of people only as they approach on my walkway.

Q: QuestionDo you need a doorbell connection (I don't have a doorbell) to use Ring?(3 answers)
A: AnswerNo, you don't need a doorbell connection. But you will need to use it wirelessly, which means charging the battery. I recommend buying a second battery for convenient, consistent operation. With the ring app, it will let you know when the battery is low so you can charge the second battery to take the place of the powering down batteryAnswered by 2lrkcbest

Worth the money
This camera has very good audio and visual recording, the microphone also works very well, and its usage with the ring app makes it extremely helpful to answer the doorbell when I’m not home. The camera also works well in the dark and even with low internet connection. If you have a problem with package stealers I highly recommend you buy this camera as it also sends alerts to your phone when there’s any movement at your front door. Highly recommend!

Ring - Video Doorbell 4
The Ring Video Doorbell 4 seems easier to set up than my previous 3 and 2nd generation. The battery life and picture quality are better. You can set it up to be activated if the sensors or the alarm is triggered. works with Amazon for home deliveries. I have one in the garage to work with garage deliveries. It has a Smart response which lets you set up a quick reply like an answering machine. You can listen to the message in real time.

It is what it is
The doorbell camera is an essential part of my day to day life and functions primarily as it should. However, it works when it likes. Sometimes the notifications and recorded events include people driving by that is not of significance, but it will exclude someone driving into my driveway and or walking in front of the door. I feel people being that close to my home is of utmost importance. There are days that the camera will capture a random delivery truck or car as “person”, but again will miss a delivery to the door or an uninvited guest. I also am not a fan of the subscription focus and cloud based programs. I wish the device could have more recording options besides a selective time frame after an alert, as often important events can be missed when an insignificant event occurs prior. It also has some quality in issues such as the image pixelation or losses in connectivity. The technology has ways to go, but it at least provides an overall desired function.
