None needed to use it’s great features!

There is a subscription plan available that lets you store the recordings in the cloud (and share them when you choose). But it is not required. It still works via the app, you just can't save the recordings. The annual subscription is currently $30 (per year) for one device.

If you want to save videos of the activity at your door, yes. You don't have to subscribe to the video service.
