If you leave the motion detector on. It does both I can see when people leave and come to the house. And it saves the motion so I can see what time my kids get home at night.

It comes with a 30 day trial to record video after that you have to purchase the iCloud to keep the recording going which I find it to be the whole purpose of this thing. It's nice to look back and see who was at your door.
