The technical answer is 8K has four times as many pixels as 4K. The truth right now(late 2023) is there is little to no 8K content for the average consumer to enjoy and the few 8K displays on the market are very expensive right now. The main reason for the confusing "8K" marketing is that due to some changes in what HDMI cables can be listed as 2.1 there are some on the market that say they are "2.1" cables but do not actually support 4K 120fps and 8K 60fps. The 4K 120fps is what most people looking for 2.1 cable want so by saying the cable is 8K what they are really saying is this is a real HDMI 2.1 cable.
