It has nothing to do with the surge protector. HDR refers strictly to the HDMI cord. My guess is Rocketfish updated the HDMI cord to the "premium certified" version and changed the model number to accommodate newer cable. Same surge protector. If you have follow-up question about what "premium certified" means...look it up. www.hdmi.org

This is a new tv technology being introduced this year (2016). I understand that they will be releasing tv shows and movies, even Ultra HD Blu-ray discs that will have this integrated technology. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. HDR works to balance the shadows and highlights of a photo so that neither are being favored or ignored. This is done by combining three different exposures into a single shot. HDR expands the range of both contrast and color significantly. Bright parts of the image can get much brighter, so the image seems to have more "depth." Colors get expanded to show more bright blues, greens, reds and everything in between.
