• If the Dell monitor is DVI then you don't need this. Just use a Mini Display Port to DVI Adapter (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-mini-displayport-to-dvi-adapter-white/5813102.p?skuId=5813102).

• That Adaptor is pretty short. You will need a full sized DVI-D cable (Male to Male)

• If the monitor does not have a DVI port you would not be able to connect the computer to the monitor using that adapter. This adapter would not work for adapting DVI to HDMI though. I would recommend getting a miniDisplay port to HDMI or VGA adapter, whichever the monitor has.
