Does it have to be buy a window? null

Its definitely helpful for a strong signal. I have mine neatly placed high up on the wall, upstairs in my bedroom. Its near the window which was a better location for the bet signal.

There is better reception closer to a window or patio.

Yes for better reception it should be hung high next to window if can
