The ROKU TV adjusts its brightness by sensing the ambient light in the room hitting the screen. The picture is still pretty bright when I have all 4 floor lamps on - but I don't usually watch TV with all the floor lamps on. The auto-brightness feature can be turned off however. Still, if your room has lots of windows the contrast and color might look washed-out if there's too much light hitting the screen directly. For the best picture, limit the light hitting the screen. Consider placing drapes (or shades) on the most offending windows if you can or positioning the TV so that direct light hitting the screen is limited. Another option is to place the screen directly in front of the source of the most light so that the light source is behind the TV (your eyes will see this as an improvement to the TV's image and contrast, But you will be looking at the TV with lots of light behind it which may or may not be comfortable to your eyes). The best option is usually to consider some kind of window treatment that minimizes direct light onto the screen. But in general, even in a bright room the TV is pretty bright. However, you don't want to run any TV at high brightness constantly because that can wear down the srceen sooner causing the TV panel to dim sooner than it would over its lifetime.
