A regular TV does not have a streaming option from an outside source. What teh Roku does is BRING those channels and movies in to the TV. SO... NO the TV doesnt do anything, but teh Roku does. Yes, you will have local, premuim and movie options. Some of these are paid subscriptions where others are free.

For regular cable channels you may need to get Netflix for around 12 a month or Sling TV for around 20 a month.But with just the regular Roku device you will still get a lot of things. I have Netflix and Sling TV. I've had Netflix for years for the children's entertainment and certain Netflix shows and got Sling for the regular tv shows and sports. I pay 36 extra for these but really would not have to. Since I am paying for Internet, why not enjoy it?
