Just keep the extra Roku stick with your old remote. You now have a Roku streaming device with remote when you travel or for an older "not - smart" television.

As a note, I noticed that when the headphones are plugged into the remote - it is using the batteries even if the television is off. So unplug the headphones when you are finished or you will be replacing batteries more often than you want.
