They're both very similar. I think ROKU has more and better applications. In general, what's available on Chromecast should be available on ROKU, but not the other way around.

I bought a chromecast to try and stream from my laptop to the TV like they say you can through Chrome, but could not get it to work properly. I sold that stick and just stayed with my Roku 3. I did recently purchase a Roku stick for another TV and it works great.
