I don't need to stream from phone or iPad with the Roku stick. It came with its own remote. I just needed a USB port in my TV to plug it into and a nearby power source. I believe the Chromecast needs to stream from phone or tablet or computer.

Yes, my iphone battery run down if i stream movies. I have never tried to use my iphone with Roku device.

Yes it uses a lot of battery and yes it needs to be in the house if its using wireless or wired...
