The ROKU USB port will allow access to thumb drive storage. We have many family photos scanned to jpegs and old home movies converted to MP4 format. This allows us to view and watch them on the TV via the Roku. Also, if you put all your MP3 music on a thumb drive you can play music too. The Roku has a media app you do this all through. I've never used the SD slot - just the USB with thumb drives.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The USB port is for viewing photos from a memory stick; the mini SD port is for storage of streaming channels if you exceed the base capacity of the device (which is about 100 channels). That basic capacity will be very likely to meet your needs, but, if you need that extra capacity, buy the mini SD card from Roku (you'll find it on their website under Accessories). It seems that other mini SD cards don't work for some reason.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Not USB...only Micros SD with this model..Previous model(2018 or prior) you could use with USB....which was useful for watching your own photos/videos/music
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Viewing photos and stored media as well as saving the actual "channels" you install for faster loading times.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The microSD card helps apps load faster. Only kicks in if you have a large number of apps installed. The USB port is for attaching mass storage. Like if you had a large movie collection digitized and wanted to access it through the movie player app included with the Roku. I use PLEX and a separate server.
