If you plan on using the dehumidify mode, yes this unit needs to emptied. The internal water tank in the air conditioner has a water level safety switch. When the water level reaches or exceeds the anticipated height, the machine will notify you to empty the unit. You can empty the water manually from unplugging the drainage port or by continuously draining with the drainage hose.
