Where exactly does the charcoal filter go. null

It is inside top exhaust grill. Remove grill and you can access the charcoal filter.

The charcoal filter is used if you are not venting the exhaust outside. It goes just above the display behind the metal strip above the door. The owners manual explains how to convert the exhaust flow from being directed outside to recirculate inside.

It goes in a section on the front of the microwave. You have to remove the plastic grill first.

Step B2 Installing the Charcoal filter... Remove screws on top of grille using a #1 Phillips screwdriver Open the door Remove the grille (push the grille to the left and pull straight out) Install the charcoal grill in the center top front of the microwave, mesh side up Reinstall the grille (push in and slide to the right) Install the Phillips screws on the top of microwave Close the door

On the top of the microwave, above the door, there is a vent that runs the width of the range. Undo three screws and slide the plastic vent to the left. The filter goes into the center "box" (you'll see the blower in the back of the compartment) at a slant. The directions at the point of installing the filter are very vague.
