QuestionWhen using in microwave mode, do I have to take out the wire racks and blue plate the unit came with and just use the glass turn table? I’m a bit confused about what can be used in microwave mode. Additionally, can I use tinfoil?

QuestionDoes this unit REQUIRE venting to the outside or will it work in recirculation mode?

- Answer This unit does NOT require venting to the outside. That part can be rotated either to the back or front. In our office, the microwave is against a wall. It vents out the top. You will need 3 inches beyond your cabinets for the microwave to vent out the top.

QuestionI lost the quick reference guide (not manual) that came with MC17J8000CS. Samsung denies it exists. Does anyone have one or know where I can find one online?

- Answer The only thing available online at samsung.com and other manual sites is the entire manual and that is NOT what I am asking about. This was a separate item, one-piece, 8.5 x 11 when folded in half, color listing of all the cooking modes and how to configure the racks/cooking tray for different foods. I suspect anyone that has purchased one of these units got a copy. I really miss it as scrolling through the menus is a real pain.

QuestionWe set to temperature 425 degrees and hit START to preheat. About 5 minutes into the preheat we noticed a strong smell like burning plastic and then heard a crack. Opened the door and saw the glass had shattered. Any idea as to cause?

QuestionDid anyone install this themselves? It comes set up for venting through the top and I need to change it to recirculate. The manual says remove the plate but the plate around the vents is not cut out and cant be removed. What am I missing?

- Answer Update: I was able to open the blower plate by taking a utility knife and carefully scoring the edge of the plate. The factory did not make a clean cut-out for the plate. Once I cut the edges all the way through, I was able to remove it and turn the blower in the right direction.

QuestionWhen convection cooking, is the microwaving turned off? I have read that some units do not turn off the microwave when using the convection oven and food is overcooked. Thanks.

- Answer Always read the owner's manual for instructions to use convection cooking. My brother made two turkeys one Thanksgiving. One in the oven, the other in the convection oven. The one in the Convection oven took less time than the traditional oven. Always use the thermometer when cooking.
