The timer and microwave do not work together. You can only use one function at a time. My previous 15 year old microwave would do both at the same time, seems very odd that a brand new one wouldn't have this functionality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is so incredibly annoying! With the previous exact same Samsung microwave we were able to operate the microwave and the timer at the same time. I'm astonished that they changed this!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just bought a Toshiba microwave….tried to use toe cook setting while the timer was on…found out you can’t use both at the same time. I’ve owned quite a few microwaves and never had this problem before…I’m going to take it back.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Thanks for the question. Some Samsung Over the Range Microwaves do have the ability to use the timer while the microwave is running, but the ME18H704SFS cannot. I did look in the manual and didn't see where it suggests it can do both simultaneously, but I'm sorry to hear you were expecting otherwise. - Ms. Samsung
