Q: QuestionDoes the packaging include all mounting hardware to mount to the wall. We do not have cabinets on either side.Want to make sure I do not incur additional cost of mounting. Hoping all brackets and hardware is included in the packaging.

I would suggest contacting your local Best Buy Appliance Team, your cabinet manufacturer or a kitchen designed for assistance locating a filler kit that would enable the 30" microwave to be installed in a 36" opening. - Ms. Samsung

Q: Questionheight required for mounting microwaveI have only got 15.25" from the underside of my cabinets to the top of the back splash tiles. (I did not tile behind my existing microwave) Will I be able to mount the microwave flush to the wall??

• A:Answer No, it is a little higher than 15.25" (it is 16.5" high). Shouldn't be hard to block it out from the wall, though. You could use masonite or plywood in different thicknesses that would work well. I had to do it for mine for the same reason.

Q: QuestionFront exhaust ventWe are wanting to replace our old microwave with this unit, our house is not set up for an external vent. Does this unit vent back into the room?

• A:Answer Yes, you can set it up that way. It will vent through a filter then blow straight up at the front of the unit. It is designed for 12" deep cabinets.

Q: QuestionHow can you connect the venting duct for back venting?The cutout template specify a 4 x 12 opening in the wall but the adaptor is for a 3 1/4 x 10 duct. Since there is no access to the adaptor when you install the microwave up the wall, how can you fit the adaptor inside the wall duct? Note that all the available outside wall outlet are riveted units that can't be dismantled so the duct has to be in place prior to flipping the microwave on the wall. How do you make that connection? The instructions only describe the opening and not how to make the connection contrary to a vertical venting situation where the instructions are pretty straightforward. Thanks

• A:Answer Thanks for your question. If you're planning to install an external vent that connects to the back of the microwave, you'll need to have access to that connection through the wall to the back of the microwave where the connection is located. This is usually done when the house is first constructed or during a significant renovation. The reason the installation guide includes instructions for sealing the connection to a top-vented microwave is that the cabinet provides the access needed to that area after the microwave is in place. - Ms. Samsung

Q: QuestionI plan to install this microwave as a built in microwave, surrounded by the kitchen cabinets.I have the wall oven installed and have some space above it, and thinking to buy this microwave to install on top of the oven. I do not plan to use the vent. How far the door will protrude out? thanks.

• A:Answer welll measure from the wall out 18 inches. bingo depending if the back is flush to wall may be 17.69" then measure how far the microwave sticks out. Remember the hinge on the left my impede if recessed to far back

Q: QuestionReplacing a similar microwaveHi, Ms Samsung. I am thinking of replacing a GE PVM2070SM3SS that has a front ventilation with this model. Does this model have a similar hookup in regards to ventilation ?

• A:Answer Yes. It can be set up to direct the vent up and outside through a pipe, or directly out the front at the top of the unit. Easy to setup and install.

Q: QuestionDoes the SMH1816 use the same mounting bracket as the earlier SMH7185?I'm buying a replacement for my SMH7185 and it'd be nice if the SMH1816 uses the same bracket in the same exact position on the wall.

• A:Answer Thanks for the question. Unfortunately, I don't have the templates available from the SMH7185 to determine if they're the same as the those for the SMH1816. If you do still have the SMH7185 templates, check the ID number that's printed on them (they should start with "DE68-"). The ID numbers for the SMH1816 are DE68-03142B for the rear wall template, and DE68-03843A for the top cabinet template. I've attached pictures of these for your reference, but please keep in mind that these pics are not sized appropriately to be used as actual templates. - Ms. Samsung

Q: Questionwhen did samsung first release the smh1816s?i see a lot of negative reviews on smh1816s relating to the se / 5e keypad error. if these people are saying in their 2012 reviews that they bought 2 years ago or in 2010, how can these be true if unit was released in 2011? most negative reviews on amazon home depot and lowes but very few show as verified purchases. I would love to repsond to each and everyone with factual information of the first date that a smh1816s could have been purchased. thanks

• A:Answer Thanks for the question. The SMH1816B does not have a button specifically for cooking rice. I would suggest checking the rice packaging for microwave-specific cooking instructions. The ME179KFETSR Speed Oven, however, does have a pre-set menu for cooking a variety of items, including rice and other grains. • A:Answer Thanks for your interest. The SMH1816S is designed to be installed under a standard 12-13" cabinet. Installing it under a 15" cabinet in the traditional manner would obstruct the hidden exhaust vent on the top front of the unit, so would not be recommended. The back of the microwave needs to be supported by the mounting bracket which enables the microwave to be flush with the rear wall. I would suggest consulting a kitchen designer or carpenter to determine whether an alternative surface can be installed behind the microwave that would provide enough support for the mounting bracket, and therefore the microwave itself. - Ms. Samsung

Q: QuestionIt shuts down after 10 minutes of use. This is my second identical microwave they both did the same thing. What can I do?Were both Microwaves that I got from Best Buy lemons? We already had a repair man from Samsung with no better results. It works fine as long as you do not cook for longer than 10 minutes.

Q: QuestionIs it a noisy microwave?once itr starts the cycle 3 to 4 secs into it I hear some sort of noise

• A:Answer that would be the magnetron engaging. The most failed part in todays microwaves. On start, It takes a few sec to purge the radiation or less stress on the unit, then produces the load noise of the 1100 watts. Also, prior to the unit timer counting last seconds down, the noise with stop to help reduce radiation. So, normal for mine to repeatably do this noise thing (sounds like the electricity load has lifted now the 1100 watts inst making noise) Just remember abruptly door opening during cooking radiation comes out of the cooking field at you.
