“If I open my freezer door, close it & then try to reopen it, I can’t. It seems have super suck for several minutes before it can be reopened. Why does it do this? Can this be alleviated in any way?”

This is a normal function for most freezers. I have a full size freezer and once opened it wants time to recover from the cold loss. It locks it down for awhile sort of like the ones in most grocery stores. At least from what I have found. As far as I know it can’t be bipassed. I have tried with no success so just accept the time delay and reopen after a few minutes.
