Neither the iPad nor the iPhone allow straight access of data through a USB cord. You need to go through iTunes (on a computer), or, if you have an Apple TV, photos and videos are accessible there. Like it or not, it's the Apple way...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Joe, It may depend on which file formats you're trying to view, and how the television is finding your device. Try moving your media to a USB thumb-drive (MSC Class Device) and see if your videos are viewable that way. Or if you can, set your iPad/Phone device to act as a media device rather than a phone device when connected via USB. Sometimes this option is possible, sometimes it is not - this depends on your OS version. I've included a list of video files to this response that can be found on Page 10 of the owner's manual.
