• Yes to both of your questions. It doesn’t respond to Alexa commands but will provide sound to anything that is being displayed on your tv.

• If you connect this via the DIgital Audio Out from your tv to the Digital Audio In on the bar, you can hear ANYTHING the tv is playing. I don't have any HDMI's hooked up and sounds awesome.. BTW.. The bar comes with the optical wire to do this.
