“I want to use this with an older Samsung TV that has Hdmi and digital optical, but not hdmi arc. My question is whether I'll be able to control the volume with my main remote, which is my Directv remote. Trying to avoid adding another remote to the mix”

• I don’t know if this will help answer your question, but I have a newer Samsung TV and I use the optical output with this sound bar. I have charter cable though, not DIRECTV, and my remote for the charter cable box works with it just fine. I have my TV set to optical out and the sound bar to digital input and it works perfectly.

• Yes it will work with your Dish remote. at least it works with mine.
