I have a Samsung TV, but sadly the TV's remote does not operate the Samsung sound bar. I also have a cable (Frontier) remote that DOES operate BOTH the TV and the sound bar. A small dialogue box does appear on the TV screen every time I adjust the volume with the cable remote, that tells you, "Your TV is set to use external speakers. Adjust the volume on the connected speakers directly ". The dialogue box disappears within 10 seconds. Small price to pay for the use of only one remote! I have mine connected with an optical cable, per recommendation from the Best Buy associate. He said it was the best option for optimal sound. It is a great sound bar. Much better than the TV speakers and much better than I expected!! Hope this helps!!

If HDMI anynet or HDMI arc is supported by your TV you can use the TV remote to control volume and On Off.

Yes! It shows onscreen thst the volume isn't available, but my Verizon Fios remote controls it without having to program it! Made me super happy. ..sidenote..my tv is the same brand, so since my tv is programmed for a Samsung that might make a difference.

I just got this soundbar, connected it to my Samsung 4K Ultra HDTV using the HDMI ports, and I was able to control the volume on the soundbar using the tv remote, however, you have to adjust the tv sound settings to select the correct audio source, and not use the tv speakers. Since my tv has only two HDMI ports, I changed my connection to use the optical cable, (and changed the tv sound settings audio source accordingly) which also allows the use of my tv remote to not only change the volume, but also to turn on and off the soundbar when you power up or down the television. I used the optical cable for the soundbar so I could use the HDMI port for a blue-ray player. The other HDMI port is dedicated to the Satellite box. Works great!
