The sound from tv goes through sound bar. Everything goes through sound bar. My dvd player, Netflix, and regular tv does too I don't use my tv speakers at all. Hope that helps.

Mine is connected directly to my 2016 model Samsung Smart TV using the included optical cable. You can also hook it up directly using an HDMI cable.
