Sounds like it's defective to me. Take it back and get a replacement. I suggest you stress-test the next one too. Crank the volume as loud as you would ever want it. If you're going to blow it up, do it while it's under warranty.

I am going to contact Best Buy customer service about this same issue. While I cannot directly answer your question, I can only assume it may be a defect with the unit considering you are not the only person who experiences the popping.
