Hi Chris - I was able to synch mine up pretty quickly to my DirecTV remote, so it is possible to do. I would try it again, or maybe search google for possible other solutions. My DirecTV genie's are new within the last 6 months, so its possible yours are older and have a different code? Good luck!

Turn soundbar on enter tv on your soundbar remote by depressing source. Watch soundbar and it should display TvV Should paired. I am able to use Direct TV remote to raise and lower soundbar volume D

Go to the Directv Menu -> settings&help-> Settings -> Remote Control -> Program Remote -> Change Audio Setting. I chose I didn't know the model and it was the 2nd code tried. Works great.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You can connect to your Direct TV remote. Go into settings on your Direct TV menu, choose remote control and add audio remote. This will allow you to control the volume and mute functions only though. You will still need to use your Soundbar remote for changing sound types, soundbar inputs, etc.
