i have samsung 65 inch tv, and teh samsung soundbar. i bought SkullCandy HESH2 bluetooth headphones. with my configuration, i did exactly what you want to do, and it works great. (I do NOT know how non-samsung connections would work, because this above configuration is connecting via bluetooth) SO, the way it works is tht when you turn on the headphones, you need to pair them with the TV. you go to the SOUND settings, and you select the BLUETOOTH connection. you will see that the samsung soundbar is connected via bluetooth. you PAIR the headphones, this connects them, and DISconnects the soundbar. when you turn OFF the headphones, sometimes you have to actually power ON the soundbar, because it went to sleep, but then it may automatically re-connect to the TV. sometimes you have to go back into the menu to do it. i'm getting used to the operation, the quirk is the re-connection of the soundbar, to ensure that it has re-paired. it is not difficult NOTE when connected to the headphones, the HEADPHONE buttons adjust the volume, NOT the tv remote
