I have mine vented out the roof of my house which is ALWAYS the most effective way to vent an over-the-stove microwave. That way, if you burn something on the stove (like frying hamburgers, you can use the microwave exhaust fan to exhaust the odor and smoke out through your roof ventilation system. However, it can be adapted with use of a carbon filter (which must be changed every once-in-awhile) to vent internally through the carbon filter.
