“In some of the pictures it looks like the top door sticks up higher than the rest of the top of the fridge, and isn’t flush/level with the body of the fridge. Is this the case?”

Here are the dimensions of this unit with the door included (32 7/8" W x 67 3/4" H x 31 7/8" D). ^Lo

Yes. Thats true. The freezer door and hinge stick up further than the top of the fridge by about 1.5"
