Turning the ice maker off should not affect the cooling system in your RF220NCTASR. Please make sure the Cooling Off (or Demo) mode is not being activated intermittently; Cooling Off disables the cooling system though the lights inside the unit still come on when the door is opened. This mode can be activated/deactivated by pressing the Ice Off and Freezer buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.
