Hi MICHELLE! You are correct. Typically in order to shut off the water supply while changing the water filter, you'll need to pull the refrigerator out slightly. However, it is also safe to leave the water supply on while changing the filter. Samsung recommends shutting the water off as this releases the pressure behind the filter making it easier to remove and change.
