I think that a toddler would have to give quite a pull on the handle to get it opened. As far as adding something once the cycle has started you can open the door and add the item. The instruction booklet recommends that should you open the door during the cycle to do that slowly in the event steam escapes.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No, I have added items after the wash has started. Just have to hit the start button again. As for the toddler, I would think the novelty would wear off and they might pull it once or twice, but forget about it after it's been checked out by them.
