“does it have very strong smell when new and for how long? When new, does this dishwasher have a strong chemical, plastic, or rubber type smell for the first several uses and if so how long did it take for the smell to fade? We have a young child wIth asthma and have to be very careful because new products like this can sometimes give her troubles. Would appreciate as many responses as possible. Thanks!”

I would not recommend this product at all. The smell was terrible with the stainless interior. I have never encountered a smell like this from a dishwasher. I also have asthma so I am very aware of fumes and smells from new items. It did not cause an attack for me but it was very unpleasant.

It’s getting less pungent after a week of using but isn’t going away. Getting a Samsung tech to come and check but hotline person claims no knowledge of this being a big issue. It doesn’t matter if using heated drying or not the smell is a bit noxious. It’s not an electrical issue per installer but no explanation so far.

However, any new item made with metal and plastics may have some odor that could be detected by someone who has a particularly sensitive sense of smell. If you find this to be the case, you can run a sanitize cycle, and place a cup of vinegar inside as instructed in the user manual, to help remove the odor. Thanks for your interest, Ms. Samsung
