The right side of our fridge is against the normal 24 inch cabinets so clearance is not an issue. In fact if there is nothing to obstruct the door swing up to about 30 inches deep, you shouldn't need to allow for any additional width for door swing. But the left side of our fridge butts up against a wall. Our total opening for the fridge is 36 inches, so this does create a problem. We really wanted this fridge so we just can't open the left door all the way. It does open far enough so that it's not a major issue for us, and we still have access to all the drawers and shelves. Also the door takes about 1 inch space when opened, so even if you have walls on both sides (which I doubt) I think it still should work for you with your 38.5 inch opening. I hope this makes sense to you and is helpful. Donna
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This model only requires 3/8'' clearance on either side.
