A:Answer The ice maker compartment has started frosting up and freezing everything up to the point where it can't dump the ice cubes. Samsung, of course, wants to send a technician to look at it for $150. All this right after the warranty expires. They say the only way to clear the problem is to defrost the entire refrigerator. If I did that, my refrigerator would be unplugged more than it is plugged in. They also say don't use a hair dryer to try to defrost it (that will probably damage one of the circuit boards). They also tell you to distribute the things in your refrigerator for better air circulation. The ice maker is self-contained in the refrigerator part, not the freezer, and there's no place for the air to circulate in the ice maker. Talked to a local appliance repair store, and they said that there are all sorts of circuit boards in the ice maker itself that can go bad and cause it to frost/freeze up. It will defrost to the point of melting the ice, and then freeze up again causing all the water/ice in it to freeze and jam. I have to take an ice pick and fork every couple of days and chip away the small pieces before it becomes a major problem. The circuit boards are about $80 each. The auger that pulls the ice to the front is also too small for the size of the ice cubes. That's why it is so sluggish about dispensing ice. No more Samsung products for me. Their service is terrible, and all they want to do is make more money off of the repair of a $3000 refrigerator. Spend your money elsewhere.
