Hi there, This simply means that the hood's venting system can be external ventilation (ducted), which must be connected to a duct in your wall or ceiling to clear the smoke/odors outside the house. While ductless ventilation doesn't require any ductwork as it filters the smoke/odors via recirculating it inside your kitchen.
