The Smart TV connects to the internet via via your home Wi-Fi the same as your tablet or smartphone do when at home. You can install apps on the TV the same way that you do on your smartphone although there are fewer apps available. For instance, you can install Crackle or Netflix Samsung smart TV's in which case you don't need anything else other than an Internet connection and the app to stream movies. If you have a tablet running KitKat 4.4 you probably can also use screen cast which will cast anything playing on your Android tablet to your TV (picture and sound). Some tablets also have an HDMI out connector which is another way to use your TV's screen and speakers for streaming content. I'm not sure of the actual internet service you have based on your description of running through a phone jack. I assume that you have DSL from the phone company and most if not all of their DSL modems have built in Wi-Fi. If you want to do what I have described above you will need a home Wi-Fi router which you probably already have.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can connect all of your wireless devices to the same wireless network. So Smartphones, computers, and Smart TVs can all be connected to your network. If your network is wired only, you can get a router and share the Internet connection among all of your devices. --Mr. S
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would recommend any TV you like (colors, sound), along with something like Chromecast or Roku. Smart TV just means that Netflix might be bult-in. However, to connect multiple devices (TV or Chromecast and your computer) to internet, you will need a wireless router too. If right now you have: Phone Line (DSL) Modem ---> PC You will use: Phone Line (DSL) Model ---> Router ---> TV, PC, Roku etc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you want to stream tv shows separate from what you're doing on your computer, get the wifi. That is, as long as you mean like Netflix, Hulu, etc. If you're just watching stuff on YouTube or ProjectFreeTV, you'll need the HDMI cable, and you won't be able to use both simultaneously.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.A Smart TV should operate as a stand alone unit without a computer. The advantage of a Smart TV is to allow hook-up by Wifi so as to eliminate any secondary device being necessary.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Smart TV will use wifi signal from your router. If you don't have wifi router a direct connection can be made from LAN cable.
