“Can the lighted remotes for older Samsung TVs be used instead of the remote that comes with with the Q50R TV? I'm buying this for some older relatives who won't be able to acclimate to the new style.”

Yes. I have a Samsung control from a tv I used to have many years ago. That's the kids remote now. To my knowledge all Samsung remotes work on all Samsung tv's.
