• mine did not come with any hdmi cables, this would be the best way to hook up a hd directv reciever. go get one. yes you will have to buy it. mine connected and looks great in hd with minor tweeks to color settings on tv.

• If you do not already have your own HDMI cable, you will need to pick one up. Most of the times, Direct TV is pretty good about giving their customers HDMI cables.

• If your hooking up HD then hdmI for best possible picture. As for hook up they are all pretty simple. Usually just plug and play . You'll love the picture of Samsung I think the best on the market
