unless you're having vision and/or hearing problems, once you go through the menu to adjust the picture and sound settings, you won't be disappointed. the speakers are down firing and even mounted on the wall the sound quality is very clear (compared to other brands i have purchased). i would turn the backlight down to +/- 80% and increase the brightness to compensate. crank the contrast to 90% or more and drop the sharpness down to 45% the adjust the colors and you should have a sharp vivid picture with near photo quality colors.

I would say the sound would be like any other TV of its size. The bezel/frame around the TV is so thin these days that there is no way to have the big speakers AND no way to have those small speakers facing towards you. If you want quality sound, I would recommend you to start looking at soundbars.

I don't have the previous model for comparison but they should have the same quality, probably to the point where, if you put them side-by-side, you wouldn't be able to see any significant difference in picture/audio - unless you compare this model with another brand. You might see differences in the Smart area: the newer model might have extra apps than the 2014 model for example. Hope this helps.
