Speakers are on the bottom of the 40"... person who said their on the back doesn't have a clue or was talking about a different TV.

I have not had this TV for very long however the sound quality is great and I have not noticed any issues with the sound getting "lost" or distortions of any kind, so it does not sound as if the speakers were far away. It also gets pretty loud if that was a concern. I have only gone up to 16 out of 100 and that was plenty loud for me.
