“The "old school " remotes with numbers and about 40 buttons cost almost nothing to manufacture. The new 5 or 6 button that force you to go into multiple menus just to change a channel aren't everyones' favorite. Why not include both types?”

Or you could check out one remote for everything. The Logitech Harmony 666 is Likely for you. My family has been using Logitech harmony remotes for over 15 years. Easy to set up too.
