Hello. I have purchased 4 of these systems. The last one I bought was for me. There are a few sound selections you can apply. Also, depending on if the tv is placed with a solid wall behind it can influence the quality of the sound (ability to have sound bounce off versus get consumed). Still, yes you can get the added external speaker and have it connected. I chose to defer spending $300 to get the speakers they showed on their display floor. I may get one when I move into my new home. For now I am ok with the sound and adjustments inherent in the tv.
