Ours is above our fireplace with no cords showing and we love it. You will need to have the box somewhere nearby though - ours is in a cabinet next to the fireplace. We ran wires through the wall from the cabinet to the back of the set. There was room for us to do this without much work at all, but you may have to drill horizontally through studs depending on how your fireplace, cabinet, and wall are constructed.

The major thing that isn't clear is that there's a fairly large box that needs to go with the TV and is connected by wires. So you'd have to run the cord from that box to the TV. Where I put my TV on the wall, now I need to get furniture below it (cord through the wall already) so I can put the box in something. If you had it all run back to a media closet, wouldn't be a problem.
